Polio and Blindness did not impede these climbers!

October 27, 2010 was the 6th annual Accessibility Awareness Exercise at the AIA in Dallas, Tx where architects use a wheel chair for one entire day. The idea is that they should "walk in their clients shoes" (pun intended). Architects are trained to design for the disabled, and make their buildings accessible and Universal, but until they sit in the chair for one day, they probably won't understand fully the impact those pesky circles and knee spaces that they put on their drawings have on the…See More

The final regulations implementing changes to Title II and III Regulations was published today, September 15, 2010 in the Federal Register.The revised regulations amend the Department's Title II regulation, 28 C.F.R. Part 35, and the Title III regulation, 28 C.F.R. Marcela Abadi Rhoads, AIA RAS is the owner of Abadi Accessibility, an accessibility consulting firm that is dedicated to educating the building industry about the laws of accessibility. She is the author of “The ADA Companion Guide” published by John Wiley and Sons which explains the new changes to the ADA. She received her Architectural degree in 1991 from the University of Texas in Austin. She is one of only 500 Registered Accessibility Specialists in the country and is considered an expert in the field. Marcela is sought after by owners and architects across the country who look to her for guidance to understand the accessibility standards throughout the design and construction process. She assists the building industry, in part, by producing a monthly newsletter and weekly Blog to educate on the best way to apply the standards to their architectural projects.
